so the first "solace" contemplative service of the year and all is going swimmingly with set up etc. i need to go get the bread for communion 10 mins before the service starts.

it's all good. hop on the "stu-ter" and zip up to the supermarket. whizzing through the empty carpark in the dark and next thing i know i've gone through the air and landed badly. a bit of pain, but i'm a tough guy. thanks to the asian man who saw it all happened and came to see if i was ok, i got my bike back up and carried on to get the bread, a little sore, but tough as nails.

get back on the scooter and zip back to the church for the 8pm. all good, except changing gears was little sore. squeezing the clutch became harder and harder . . . but i'm tough as nails so it didn't matter.

i get there, the service starts, nice and intimate, good vibes, good responses, good contemplation. nice. real nice. and i'm a hard man, so i just kept on playing even though my arms were packing up.

says one person who found out today that i had conducted the whole service with a broken arm "wow, you really gave it your all, we didn't even notice."

that's because i'm hard. not soft like all the other ministers of religion out there. i'm a new breed . . . it'll take more than a broken joint to stop me from doing the lord's work.

{crash to reality and things i'm not going to tell anyone}

man it hurts. and it's only a little wee crack in the bone. it's a bit rich to call it broken, but it does mean i can't even put my socks on without excruciating pain. crazy how the tiniest troubles cause the most pain.

i'm not a hard man, but i don't know what else i could have done . . . had it been more serious i'm not sure what we would have done with the service. as it stands, it wasn't so bad. but i was too stiff and sore to do anything at the end.

i could hardly climb out of the bath at the end of the night. madness. i felt like weeping because i was so utterly clumsy and helpless. both arms were really sore of course, only one is broken.

anyway, that is as they say that, and if you've read this far, i count you as a good friend indeed!
